When did you start working at Phone2Action and why are you interested in working in advocacy? I started here at the end of June 2018, but my Phone2Action journey truly began three years ago when my former job, an education advocacy nonprofit, partnered with us in 2016. I’ve been using Phone2Action ever since and, after managing a suite of about a dozen different outreach tools, I had yet to find a more powerful, easy-to-use tool. Having the opportunity to work with multiple types of clients and put even more advocacy into action was a no-brainer.

What's your favorite movie and book? Last Oscar season’s Lady Bird will go down in history as my favorite movie. (Anyone who’s ever lived in Sacramento will know why.) And favorite book? Any piece of writing by David Sedaris. His dark humor and stories about growing up on the coast of North Carolina make him feel like the older brother I never had.

Are you a dog or cat person, and do you currently have any pets? Finally, a question custom-made for me: Team dog. Golden retrievers (my family breeds them!) are truly the best creatures to grace this planet.

What is your third-most used emoji?   (What? I have a lot of urgent things to say…)

What's your favorite thing about helping clients succeed on public policy campaigns? I love being part of the solution. The beauty of American democracy is that advocacy groups of all shapes and sizes can push for their particular improvement to society. No one in advocacy doesn’t want to make the world a better place for future generations. Helping lift their voices—and the voices of those that are often underrepresented—makes me believe in the democratic process.

Favorite movies (3-way tie): Black Panther, The Godfather: Part I and The Godfather: Part II; Favorite Books (2-way tie): fiction - The Count of Monte Cristo; non-fiction/biography - “Leonardo da Vinci” by Walter Isaacson. I have explanations for all of these, if need be.

What's your favorite thing about helping clients succeed on public policy campaigns? I really enjoy helping our clients use Phone2Action to achieve their policy and engagement goals. Ever since I was a child, I’ve long believed in the power of technology to improve our lives. I used to work on Capitol Hill and my first job out of college was reading correspondence (email, phone calls, and physical mail) that constituents would send to my member of Congress. After my boss retired, I worked for a small non-profit organization (and one of our newest clients!) doing outreach and government affairs. I know firsthand the challenge of reaching your advocates and getting them to take action on issues that your organization is uniquely positioned to advocate for. I really enjoy hearing how our platform helps make our clients’ jobs easier and more effective. I like hearing them feel empowered from using Phone2Action, as opposed to previously feeling overwhelmed.

When did you start working at Phone2Action and why are you interested in working in advocacy? I started working at Phone2Action because growing up anything political seemed very inaccessible to me. I didn't know where to get information, let alone what to do to actually make an impact. When I heard about Phone2Action and how it made communicating directly to your legislators so easy, I knew that it was a cause I wanted to get behind.

What's your favorite movie and book? My favorite movie is Ali and my favorite book is Ishmael by Daniel Quinn.

Are you a dog or cat person, and do you currently have any pets? I'm team dog, but I don't have any pets right now.

When did you start working at Phone2Action and why are you interested in working in advocacy? I've been with Phone2Action as an employee since August 2016, but I was a client for three years before joining the team. What's your favorite thing about helping clients succeed on public policy campaigns? My favorite part is when our clients hear compelling and personal stories their advocates tell elected officials. Powerful stories are often the very things that change a lawmaker's mind on a particular issue. They can also play a huge role in helping our clients find new supporters for their cause.

Matt Santoro, Customer Success Manager

When did you start working at Phone2Action and why are you interested in working in advocacy? I started working at Phone2Action in February after completing my seventh consecutive winning cycle on the campaign trail. What's your favorite movie and book? Favorite Movie: Arrival; Favorite Book: The Stand

What's your favorite thing about helping clients succeed on public policy campaigns? In an age where people are often cynical about government and whether it can work for the people, I find it deeply empowering to help clients prove to their advocates that the power is in their hands. When we tell our elected officials what we want and hold them accountable through civic engagement, we make this nation better for everyone.

Blake Wood, Customer Success Manager

When did you start working at Phone2Action and why are you interested in working in advocacy? I started at Phone2Action in April of 2016. Working on the Hill showed me how important and influential advocacy is to our democracy. We often put voting on a democratic pedestal, as if it’s the only way to make things happen. Digital advocacy has shown me that this is far from reality. I like working at Phone2Action as it allows us to make advocacy a part of daily civic life.

What's your favorite movie and book?  So many movies to choose from, but I’m always up for watching Star Wars. Other than that, Interstellar is one of the few I’ve watched multiple times in recent memory. My favorite book would have to be The Tragedy of Great Power Politics. I’m an IR junkie in my spare time and used this as a basis for my thesis.

Are you a dog or cat person, and do you currently have any pets? Definitely dogs, but I like both. I currently don’t have a pet, but my family still has the same dog and cat we’ve had for a while.

What is your third-most used emoji?

What's your favorite thing about helping clients succeed on public policy campaigns? Different organizations get different benefits from their advocacy initiatives, but I always enjoy when we find out that an influx of emails or calls changed a legislator’s mind on a vote or policy. Legislators listen - you just have to know how to get their ear!
